At Melacast, we provide a space for creatives of color in the film industry to tell their stories. Storytelling is and has been imperative to preserving cultural narratives. Whether written on ancient papyrus or in 140 characters, people have found ways to tell their stories/truth. But/However, there are significant disparities when it comes to minority stories being told on the silver screen. People of color accounted for 13.9% of film leads, 12.6% of directors, 8.1% of film writers, 7.1% of creators of broadcast scripted shows, 7.3% of creators of cable scripted shows, and 15.7% creators of digital scripted shows. In the 86 years of the Oscars, 4 out of 344 awards went to Asians. 68% of all female characters were white in the top 100 films of 2019. 20% were Black, 7% were Asian, and 5% were Latina. The Melacast is a platform built to connect actors, directors, and crew of color with the opportunities, talent and resources needed to tell culturally rich/diverse stories in film.

  The Melacast Network is an initiative long overdue for the film industry! Their mission and vision plan to uplift the BIPOC community and tell stories that put BIPOC creatives in front and behind the camera is a game changer. Not to mention working with them is a super easy experience, as a small startup, their service is personal and caring. Can’t wait to start production to work with them more.
